Russel Metals Inc. is currently seeking an individual to TRAIN for the position of Equipment Operator in our London, ON location.

This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated individual to learn how the steel industry operates. Russel Metals Inc. is looking to hire an individual into the position of Labourer at the hourly rate of $22.50/hr. Upon successful completion of the 60-shift probation and Labourer training the selected individual will be given the opportunity to train for Equipment Operator at the hourly rate of $28.04/hr.

Please note - our work environment is safety sensitive and will require the successful applicant to undergo a pre-employment medical and drug evaluation.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Operation of Overhead Cranes, Forklifts, North and South Side loaders, and Band saws according to SOP.
  • Ability to complete Labourer duties according to SOP.
  • Ability to shunt trucks, load and unload trucks according to SOP.
  • Ability to understand and organize internal and external paperwork.
  • Responsible for meeting daily production and on-time requirements.
  • Ability to conduct quality inspections.
  • Ability to meet specific tasks at hand.
  • Manage deliveries by organizing storage racks in a manner that supports To FIFO principle.
  • Accurately check Bills of Lading against incoming material and verify correct quantities, length/width, and thicknesses of in-bound and out-bound loads while maintaining traceability of product.
  • Ensure that customer orders are picked and shipped on time and according to customer instructions and due dates.
  • Provide direction to customers and drivers on plant safety policies and procedures when picking up and delivering loads

Education and Skills Required:

  • Effective communication and problem-solving abilities.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills.
  • Metals industry product knowledge is preferable.

Shift: Day (7am-3pm) / Afternoon (3pm-11pm) ROTATION (.85 cent premium on afternoon shift)
