A.J Forsyth is currently seeking an individual for the position of Operations Manager in our Nanaimo, BC location. 

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Create a safe, positive and productive work environment.
  • Provide leadership and direction to the shipping departments and unionized branch warehouse.
  • Identify and respond to customer needs quickly and effectively.
  • Plan day-to-day operations, assign manpower, authorize overtime and control costs.
  • Perform capacity planning for equipment, floor space and manpower requirements in accordance with forecasted workload.
  • Direct involvement with branch quality program.
  • Maintenance of the branch health and safety program.
  • Assist in the development and pay back of capital expenditure requests.
  • Coordinate with all departments to ensure production standards and branch goals are achieved.
  • Development and coaching of employees, delegate effectively and give meaningful feedback and recognition where appropriate.
  • Ensure that the business operates within corporate guidelines, and all legislative requirements.

Education and Skills Required:

  • Plant manufacturing/distribution experience, business administration or production environment.
  • Management/supervisory experience in a manufacturing or production environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with proven leadership ability (lead, motivate, delegate).
  • Strong analytical, time management and organizational skills.
  • Strong planning, decision making, oral and written communication skills.
  • Experienced in metals processing activities; saw cutting and thermal cutting.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word and PowerPoint).
  • Prior experience in process improvement programs is beneficial.
  • AutoCAD experience is an asset
  • Prior experience with a unionized workforce is an asset.

Salary Range: $66,600 - $94,800
