Job Summary:

Russel Metals is currently seeking a motivated individual for the position of Standard Shunt Truck Operator in our Cambridge, ON Branch. Shift: NIGHTS 11:00 pm - 7:00 am SUNDAY - FRIDAY. The primary purpose of this position is to operate a shunt truck in order to deliver trailers safely and timely from allocated bays on the property, all while maintaining material/trailers in good condition. 

The successful candidate will have the ability to drive a manual transmission. 

Due to our safety sensitive work environment, employment is conditional upon successfully passing a medical assessment including drug testing.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Operate manual transmission shunt truck.
  • Completes and documents circle checks of equipment prior to use (pre-shift).
  • Reports any defects, deficiencies or repairs to the shift foreman.
  • Assists loading of truck to facilitate efficient and safe loading and off-loading.
  • Picks up material from locations on the property if required.
  • Maintains good safety practices
  • Once all shunts have been completed, other warehouse duties will be assigned by supervisor.
  • The position will require working outdoors in the elements. Loading and unloading of trucks will be required.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • 1-2 years driving experience preferred
  • Must be able to perform moderate to heavy lifting/bending over an eight-hour shift.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of health and safety procedures relevant to the position.
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of load securement.
  • Shunters: Knowledge of Shunt Truck Operation. Ability to drive manual transmission.
  • Relevant experience with the ability to operate forklift, overhead crane, and band saw as required

Hourly Rate: $28.26 plus a .75 cent afternoon shift premium. Full rate $30.26.

Shift: NIGHTS 11:00 pm - 7:00 am SUNDAY - FRIDAY
