Russel Metals is one of the largest metals distribution companies in North America, with a growing focus on value-added processing.  It carries on business in three segments: metals service centers, energy field stores and steel distributors.  Its network of metals service centers carries an extensive line of metal products in a wide range of sizes, shapes and specifications, including carbon hot rolled and cold finished steel, pipe and tubular products, stainless steel, aluminum and other non-ferrous specialty metals.  Its energy field stores carry a specialized product line focused on the needs of energy industry customers.  Its steel distributors operations act as master distributors selling steel in large volumes to other steel service centers and large equipment manufacturers mainly on an "as is" basis. 

We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized individual to join our team as a Production Scheduler & Coordinator at our Halifax, NS Branch. In this role, you will be responsible for maintaining the production schedule, ensuring timely delivery of orders, coordinating with machine operators, and contributing to overall efficiency in the production process. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication and organizational skills, with a working knowledge of AutoCAD and production management tools.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain Production Schedule: Adjust workload based on available time, loading schedules, and urgency. Communicate changes with the Processing Sales Coordinator that could affect delivery schedules.
  • Support Machine Operators: Ensure jobs are provided in a timely manner to Machine Operators to improve machine uptime.
  • Verify Paperwork: Ensure paperwork is accurate, and provide Machine Operators with complete and correct instructions.
  • Optimize Production: Combine similar material working orders to increase productivity and efficiency.
  • Enter Working Orders: Input orders based on current stock and CNC programs/AutoCAD drawings from the Processing Department.
  • Create/Modify AutoCAD Drawings: Modify customer drawings based on provided sketches, templates, or specifications.
  • Assist with Scheduling: Help adjust production schedules and communicate lead times using the Production Status Report.
  • Inventory Management: Perform regular stock checks of off-cut plate inventory and maximize off-cut use.
  • Additional Duties: Investigate variances, manage cancelled orders, deliver tickets to Operators, and perform other tasks as required.

Job Requirements:

  • Communication Skills: Must be able to effectively communicate with team members and management.
  • Analytical & Organizational Skills: Strong ability to manage time, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.
  • Teamwork: Must be comfortable working in a team environment and handling multiple tasks.
  • Technical Skills: Working knowledge of  Microsoft Office, and AutoCAD required.

Additional Information:

  • Shift: Monday-Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:30 PM
  • Work Environment: Office/Warehouse
