Position Overview:
The Outside Sales Representative is a key revenue-generating role responsible for driving new business, growing market share, and strengthening customer relationships within an assigned territory. This role demands strong sales skills, a results-oriented mindset, and the ability to prospect, qualify, and close new business opportunities. As part of the compensation package, you will receive a base salary, along with a performance-based commission structure that rewards your success in account growth.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Achieve & Exceed Sales Targets: Drive revenue growth and expand market share by achieving and surpassing assigned sales quotas.
  • Manage Product Portfolio: Effectively plan and prioritize territory coverage to manage a diverse range of products and opportunities.
  • Own Territory Performance: Be fully responsible for territory management, including prospecting, account growth, and customer retention.
  • Business Development: Identify, qualify, and close new business through cold calling, in-person meetings, referrals, and outreach initiatives.
  • Sales Presentations & Demonstrations: Deliver compelling presentations, product demos, and plant tours to close deals.
  • Build Strong Relationships: Cultivate lasting relationships with decision-makers and influencers at both new and existing accounts.
  • Customer Liaison: Serve as the main point of contact between customers and internal teams, ensuring smooth execution and customer satisfaction.
  • Collaborate with Inside Sales: Work closely with Inside Sales to maximize territory performance and enhance overall results.
  • Customer Visits: Conduct regular customer visits to uncover new opportunities, protect existing business, and increase account penetration.

Reporting & Strategic Accountability:

  • Weekly Reports: Submit weekly written field reports to Management covering sales activities, pipeline status, customer feedback, competitive intelligence, and forecast accuracy.
  • Quarterly Reviews: Participate in business review meetings with management to evaluate territory performance and align on growth strategies and objectives.

  • Represent Russel Metals professionally in all customer interactions and internal communications.
  • Willingness to travel to remote areas within the assigned territory.
  • Regular reporting and communication with management on sales activities and performance.

Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of heavy-duty equipment, mining, and/or steel industry experience is an asset.
  • Must hold a Class 5 Driver’s License.
  • Strong communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
  • Self-motivated, results-oriented with a proven track record in sales.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Salary Range: 70,000 - 90,000 + performance-based incentives
