JOB SUMMARY:

We are currently seeking a detail-oriented individual for the position of Purchasing Assistant within our Edmonton, AB branch.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide comprehensive purchasing support across all business units
  • Be familiar with all relevant suppliers and their product ranges
  • Effective communication and negotiation skills in dealing with internal and external customers and suppliers
  • Processing high-volume material receipts in the system with speed and accuracy
  • Maintaining detailed PO comments and expediting notes with efficient data entry
  • Quickly updating purchase order ETAs and system information in real-time
  • Coordinate inbound shipments
  • Assist with various administrative and purchasing support responsibilities
  • Work in conjunction with Regional Purchasing
  • Other duties as assigned

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Strong analytical, organizational, and time-management skills
  • Ability to manage a high volume of requests, meet deadlines
  • Excellent multitasking abilities
  • Advanced problem-solving, decision making and follow-up abilities
  • Fast and accurate keyboard typing skills (minimum 50-60 WPM)
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to prioritize urgent requests without losing accuracy
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment
  • High attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to follow processes and maintain consistent documentation
  • Ability to work independently while supporting a team environment
  • Computer proficiency in MS Word and Excel
  • Grade 12 Diploma
  • 2-3 years administration experience

PREFERENCE WILL BE GIVEN TO CANDIDATES WITH:

  • Post-secondary education in Business Administration, Supply Chain, Logistics, or a related field
  • Previous experience within the steel service center industry
  • Experience with purchasing, receiving, logistics, or inventory control
  • Familiarity with railcar shipments and freight coordination
  • Experience working with expediting, and receiving processes

Salary Range: $55,000 - $60,000
